I periodically check Freebates, a blog that lists all sorts of rebates (most FREE after rebate!) that are available. I've taken advantage of some of them, too, and recently won a Coupon Organizer from the woman behind the blog, Lori.
Can I tell you how PUMPED I am about winning this!? As many of you know, I have my coupon binder but lugging that thing to the store requires much effort and a constant battle of fear of man. Having this nifty organizer will allow me to only bring the coupons I need for the particular stores I plan to go to during my outing AND be ready for the cashier.
Note: It is CRITICAL being organized upon checkout. Last night William and I went to Meijer to get some dealios and as he was doling out the coupons I was checking the register monitor as I loaded the cart (in my anal way, I might add) when I noticed a mysterious $4 addition for "MAT LATTE."
I racked my brain quickly trying to figure out what that meant and as we were wheeling the cart away I realized that we did not purchase anything for $4 exactly thus making that an error.
The result? We went to Customer Service and got $4. 29 credited back to our credit card (which we pay off in full - another key to saving $$). Thank You, Lord!
Anyway, if you're interested in another SMALL way to make your money go a bit further, check out Lori's FREEBATES site!

We woke up this morning and got the coffee going. William checked the temperature. The ACTUAL temperature was -20 degrees.
As I write this, about 2 hours later, it has dropped to -21. And William and Bethany are outside trying to jump start her car.
Last night we had a date night and decided to return some items that have been on our to-do list. It was -16 as we ran from the parking lot to the mall and back.
We got some Chinese food and the dry cleaners next to it was "Closed due to the weather." Now that is COLD!
Praying the Jetta will start after it warms up to 30 degrees or so. Not even worth trying to start her now. She hates the cold.
How's the weather where you are?

Yesterday Joshua came up to me as I was getting dinner ready and said,
"Mommy. I didn't get so many swats today."
(Yes, we discipline our kiddos. And when we need to administer the rod, we call them "swats.")
Well, I kinda didn't know how to respond as I wasn't sure where he was going with his comment. So, I asked a follow-up question.
"Why do you think you didn't get so many swats?"
"Because I obeyed today!"
Knowing some reading this strictly oppose disciplining children and consider it abuse, I wholeheartedly believe it is abuse to NOT discipline children. So hearing my son begin to put together that there are consequences to our every thought and action is motivation for me to continue training and disciplining them in the Lord. I want it to go well with my children when they are older. I want them to live for God as they become more and more aware of their sinfulness and His holiness.
One other note for those who oppose disciplining children, what we believe and practice is only effective when the training component has been in place. It's not about how hard and how much can I spank my kid. It's about us showing them and helping them discern what is pleasing behavior and what is not.
Thank You, Lord. We sure did have a great day yesterday and it had NOTHING to do with me! It was ALL simply by Your grace that any good came out of our day. Trust me. I remember my stinking attitude first thing in the morning and the hopelessness I shared with William. But by Your amazing grace, it was a day we watched no TV, saw no videos, and didn't leave the house. Instead we read a chapter in one of their kid Bibles, went through their Scripture memory (at the request of Joshua!), cleaned and organized and played all day! How kind You are.
And the last thing Joshua said on the subject was, "Today was the best day!"

Dear Kadin David,
Happy Birthday, Big Boy! Since Daddy recently took you to the doctor to check on your fever and cough, it is official that though you are our "big boy," you really aren't that big at all! One week shy of your 2nd bday you weighed in at only 25 lbs, including clothes and a diaper! But 'baby' you are not!
Lil' Manimal, there are so many things I love about you, how God has wired you. I love that you are still such a cuddly guy and enjoy being held by me or Daddy... or just about any body. You are particularly sweet with Paloma Joy. I think you give her more kisses than you give me! I pray you remain affectionate, never refraining from extending the love of Christ to others.
I love how you are beginning to really put words and sentences together. Some of the words I love to hear you say are:
- water = wadee
- hug = hi eee
- help = how woo
- I want = Ah wanna Ah wanna
- Paloma = Oma
- Joshua = Oshwa
- Saraina = Aynee
- cow = moooo
And what most people comment on after spending just a short amount of time in your presence is your facial expressions. You have got to be the most facially animated kid I have ever seen. Perhaps we can market that and make some cash off of you! Either way, Daddy and I are set on steering you to use that in a way that brings God glory.
I love you, lil fellow and I thank our God for creating you and granting me to be your mama!
Happy 2nd Birthday, Kadin!!!!!
