Obeying our Parents

At church yesterday we were really affected by the message based on the following Scripture:

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:5-10 ESV)

What was especially powerful to us about this passage is that if we, Joshy, Sissy, and Special K, REALLY (and we mean REALLY) claim to be believers and followers of the Lord Jesus Christ we will have fellowship with one another. As Kenneth Maresco (one of our old pastors at Covenant Life in MD) pointed out, that's surprising. We will have biblical fellowship with ONE ANOTHER, not just with God. That means us kiddos will want our parents to correct us, teach us, reprove us, point out our sin because we will have the common goal of living lives pleasing to God.

SO... we are starting to get more instruction on this as the folks are working on our very first memory verse. And we are PUMPED! We will be working to memorize Ephesians 6:1 which says,

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

So we welcome you (if you claim to be a believer and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ) to have genuine fellowship with others too. Let us all work toward true fellowship, allowing others to speak into our lives, confessing in humility our ugly sin... all with the purpose of pleasing our great and awesome God!

With much love and affection,
j, s, and k
